How to Write a Book

Cover - Automatic AuthorIn January 2012, I’m resurrecting the PageCoach brand and launching a new blog for writers.

Although I still plan to share technical and business information about blogging, self-publishing, and marketing, the new blog will be slanted toward the creative process — techniques, exercises, and prompts that make generating content faster and easier.

The keystone product — the Outlining and Writing System I’ve been using to build my indie author platform — launches next week and I’m giving away one copy from the Early Announcement List.

In the past four or five years, Shift Your Spirits really took off. If you follow my work there, or on the spin-off Automatic Intuition, you probably assume I make most of my income as a professional intuitive counselor performing readings.

Actually, the vast bulk of my income is generated from my writings. I make at least five times more — in passive income — selling even the low cost downloads like The Money Shift than I do in talking to clients one on one.

Now, with a catalog of over 10 information products, the effects are compounded — they advertise one another — and the growth has become exponential, with very little additional “work” on my part other than weekly blogging.

How’s Your Book Coming Along?

You can’t take advantage of this revolution in indie publishing (Kindle, iBooks, selling digital downloads) without finishing your manuscripts.

Are you still trying to be a writer — the kind of writer who finishes?

Are you struggling to jump from the overwhelm of your big ideas, through procrastination, into the flow of productivity, and on to generating actual income from your work?

Maybe you’ve had some writing success, especially since you started blogging, but the big projects still seem to be more “painful” than they should be for someone who claims to want to write.

Whatever publishing route you decide to take — whatever form of “book” makes you feel like a “real” author — you need to crack the code on quickly and effortlessly producing and completing a lot of writing.

Automatic Author

Next week, I’m going to share with you the simple and practical system I use to automatically outline and execute all my tutorials, courses, workshops, workbooks, and ebooks.

It’s called Automatic Author. It definitely works for me.

And this writing system will work for you too.

One of my greatest intentions has always been to leave a trail of instructions, at each step of the way, so that if you want to share any part of my path, you can come along with me.

Are You Doing It Wrong?

If your marketing grosses you out too much or makes you squirm, maybe you actually ARE doing it wrong. If reading your sales pages out loud makes you throw up in your mouth a little bit, I’m pretty sure you’ve got a steaming pile of full-on inauthentic.

Creating the End of Your Writing Project

Have you ever “visited” the spot on the shelf in a major bookstore or library where your book will one day live?

If you’ve ever created a Vision Board as an exercise in Manifestation | Attraction, then you may appreciate the technique of creating visual mock ups of completed projects — even before you start them.

Software Tools for Writers

Writers — not just bloggers, but you novelists, book authors, and screenplay writers — what software, tools, and computer programs do you use? Here are some of my personal recommendations.

Aligning Images in RSS Feeds

How to embed style in your HTML image tags so that the pictures in your posts display correctly in your RSS feed as well as on your blog.

Selling Your Services on A Budget

Do you want to sell professional services — such as readings or consultations or coaching sessions — using your free PayPal account — instead of investing in expensive (and clunky) shopping cart systems?

Do Not Follow

The Do Follow Movement ain’t working. I realize that I can’t single-handedly raise up anyone else’s pagerank in the search engines by following their links, yet I can drag my own pagerank down very quickly with the same noble function.

Blogging for Practitioners

For those who are personal development coaches, paraprofessionals, and healing arts practitioners — with goals that resemble my own — I still have a lot left to say about blogging and marketing.
