You Might Be A Lightworker If…

In her book, The Lightworker’s Way, Doreen Virtue defines Lightworkers as “those who volunteered before birth to help people and the planet heal from the effects of fear.”

The Lightworker's Call

She also includes a handy checklist that may resonate with you.

You might be a Lightworker if you:

  • Feel called to heal
  • Feel called to solve social and environmental problems
  • Believe spiritual methods can heal
  • Have had mystical experiences - such as psychic premonitions, angelic encounters or interventions
  • Endured harsh life experience, conditions, or circumstances that have eroded your knowledge of divine perfection, yet the feeling that there is Higher Benevolent Power at work in the Universe persists, in spite of all this
  • Want to heal your own life and then the world around you
  • Feel compelled to write, teach, or counsel others
  • Know in your heart that you are here for a Purpose, even if you are unsure what that purpose is, exactly

The Lightworker’s Calling is A Commitment
I must say that I have personally experienced and believe it to be true for others as well: that if you are called to the Lightworker’s Way, then returning to your spiritual path and defining your life’s purpose is imminent and must be answered to.

You must answer the call to stand in your highest integrity and use your life to serve the greater good - it will not just go away because you are afraid of it, the time isn’t right, or you feel like changing your mind…

This awareness will persist - the call will become incessant, like a phone ringing and ringing and never going to voicemail. You may feel that everything else you try to accomplish is blocked or just never seems to pan out…

When you step out of your own shadow and begin to live your life with a selfless, spiritual agenda, you will experience the opposite of struggle. The very things that you fear won’t be received well by others, or that might cause you to be judged unfairly, or that will bring more poverty and hardship - you must push past that ego-centered thinking - your difficulties will seem to magically reverse.

Lightworker’s Amnesia
Many of us experience a kind of Amnesia - possibly for much of, or for large periods of, our lives - as the result of difficult life experiences, or what is considered “normal” social conditioning.

Erin Pavlina is one other medium I know of who also blogs about Spirituality and Life Purpose, and she specializes in helping people remember where they come from.

Lightworker’s Mantras and Affirmations:

Where you stumble, there your treasure lies.
Joseph Campbell

On the other side of your fears you will find your fortune.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
Dr. Seuss

[...] In an older post I regurgitated Doreen Virtue’s checklist for helping you identify whether or not you might be a Lightworker. I’ve also written an overview of Why You Are Here that explains what you are experiencing by engaging me in this way, at this particular time, and in this virtual location. [...]

Hi Slade. Great article. I’ve heard of lightworkers before, but never really knew much about their goals. It sounds as if I may be one too. :0) By the way I found your site through Patrica Singleton’s blog. Both of you have such great ideas and thoughts. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :0)

    Shirley,

Welcome! I’m glad you found me here. Having checked out your blog, I would have to say you must be a Lightworker, and you certainly qualify as a Spiritual Blogger, too.

Hi Slade, I found your blog through Patricia as well. I also am figuring out if I am a light-worker and am still learning and exploring. I want to explore spirituality a lot more and your blog is a great way to do that. Thanks so much for the wonderful articles. Gratefully, Jenny

    Jenny,

You are so welcome! I’m honored that my articles are a part of your journey. Thank you for saying so.

    Hey Slade,

Great article! I only recently heard the term “Lightworker” through one of my friends. It so happens I am one too (your article confirms it), though I don’t like to label myself as anything. My friend mentioned that lightworkers see repeating patterns in numbers, is that true?

    Thanks,
    -Desika

    Desika,

You sure seem like someone with all the Lightworking criteria…

Doesn’t everyone see repeating patterns in numbers? Maybe not. It’s hard for me to imagine that they don’t… Making some people don’t notice these kinds of signs and synchronicities, whereas a lightworker is extremely sensitive to them and more likely to notice them and attribute some meaning to them.

I can’t imagine that a lightworker would not have this pattern sensitivity, among others…

    Slade,

You are right about the sensitivities, especially to energies of all kinds. In the past few weeks, I came to the conclusion that I should not over analyze anything and everything. :-)

    Thanks,
    Desika

[...] Tell-tale Signs of an Empath Does the Universe seem to position you in the role of counselor? Do you sometimes feel like you must be walking around with a sign on your forehead that says “Tell me your story”? It’s because you are. The majority of communication between two people occurs sub-vocally or even non-vocally. People consciously, subconsciously, and even unconsciously read your energy — lightworkers, healers, or those with high empathic vibrations give off a signal that even strangers can interpret with startling accuracy. Hi Slade

can a lightworker balance there calling with life as a family member
there seems to be a riff in the family group as the calling is gettings stronger
I guess i’m asking should the family circle be broken and a new circle created with like minded healers. to help channel the lightworker

    Thanks
    Rob

I just read some stuff about lightworkers. I can not sleep and i have been like that for about 3 years about the same time I started having a problem with the number 222 (I hate to even type that number). It scares me. I seem to always see that number. Can you help maybe explain what is going on.

    Hi Slade,

As I revisited this post at your reminder today, I found myself giggling at the notion of changing my mind, being on this particular route. Like you said, that option is no longer available! It is a most acute feeling. Any resistance on my part inevitably ends in the biggest roadblocks as I think to go back or in some other direction. I think that might be the most accurate indicator of the choice one made long ago and might not have known it.

I also love the fact that lightworkers come in all shapes and sizes. Meaning, even some business execs and short order cooks one encounters have the lightworker role, just not as typically, neatly categorized. But I undoubtedly recognize it when I see it, as I’m certain do others.

Thanks for the list. It provides clarity, comfort and in my case, much need levity.

    He Slade,
when I read that list I had a “OMG!! ~ WOW” moment!
sometimes we “know stuff” but to actually see it neatly listed, creates an impact, even if we’ve “known” about our “mission” our whole lives!
    :)
