Channeling the Mother Goddess
My Mama is my favorite person in the world; I can not even fathom a relationship with greater significance.
My connection to the Mother extends along a full spectrum between the super common everyday physical world to the divine.
As a young pagan visiting Baptist Bible School, I annoyed the teachers by asking questions like “If God is our Father, where’s our Mother?” and “Is Mother Nature God’s Wife?” From a purely literary perspective, the cast of Heavenly characters should have been the Father, the Son, and… the Holy Mother, right? What kind of family are we talking about here? Who wrote this story?
They asked me not to come back.
In my teens I was finally relieved to discover that I was not the only person in the world for whom God was a Lady; indeed, the earliest civilizations and the oldest religions and the largest populations in the world mirrored the intuitive truth of it. For a quarter of a century now I have pursued my relationship with Her and the Path has no end.
As I have discussed before, Shift Your Spirits is directed by my relationship with the Mother; although it is not always overt in the articles here, my work creates a node of energy that holds space and attracts others who are Called by the Mother. For many of you, your spirit guides have led you here — a significant percentage of reading requests come from those who are answering this call.
How do I spot the signs of the Mother when I read for you?
- The angelic team surrounding you (especially your personal guardian angels) is populated with Throne angels.
- Your primary spirit guide presents as an Emissary of the Mother God(dess) or Archangel Auriel.
Do you have the ability to channel the Mother? What does that mean? In connection with your highest sense of purpose, life will often place you in positions where you play the role of healer or counselor or advisor.
I personally experience the Mother as the Christian Mary and on occasion Kali, but She takes many faces and names. Other aspects of the goddess / female deity that may resonate with you include Quan Yin or Brigid or Ceridwen or Artemis… (The list is enormous).
When you channel the Goddess, you become a conduit for the female aspects of god that include empathy, healing, compassion, nurturing. At some point in life, you probably felt Called to refocus your life and your purpose, your mission, or your life “theme” to center around using your life to help others.
And don’t make the mistake of thinking the Mother can’t be a serious bad-ass — think about the protective lioness and mama bears out there. More often times than not, those who serve the Mother can fall into an extreme pattern of always adapting themselves to the needs of others; your challenges will generally manifest in one of two ways — you either need to learn to nurture yourself as you do others; OR you need to learn to assert yourself and express the Father energy you tend to repress (usually from a sense of guilt).
Channeling the Mother has nothing to do with your sex or gender — it also does not require any specific profession or “job” — it’s a power that comes through no matter where you are or what you do or what you call yourself. It’s about a quality that others see in you and request of you, and your desire to respond to this need.
The Mother is generally concerned with the Ascension of the human race — the spiritual evolution of humanity as an All or Nothing prospect — it’s not something some of us achieve, while others fail at. It’s a goal that can only be reached when ALL of us evolve or ascend. The Mother emphasizes the importance of the collective — and one of the tools she encourages is prayer — not just individually, but the power of what we can accomplish when we all focus our energy together on a higher purpose.
If prayer is not a word that appeals to you, you might also think of “harmonic convergence” and group meditation.
As with older siblings helping a mother to care for the younger one, those who are called to serve the Mother are charged with assisting others to heal themselves.
Because you “channel” this energy, you are blessed with the protection of a very specific kind of angelic entity called a Throne angel — sometimes called the Army of the Queen of Heaven. Your personal guardian angels have been “upgraded” by the Mother to include members of her personal angelic phylum. This give you extra healing abilities and what we call “psychic” or intuitive sensitivity.
Think “healing” in the broadest sense of the word — this doesn’t mean you necessarily have to be involved in the medical profession. Even words heal. Listening is also a form of healing.
You draw other people to you who also channel the Mother — I would personally be one example of a connection you have made with someone else in service to this power. If you have recently become aware of this tugging, this calling you can’t quite name, look at your newest friends, or the connections you have made recently. You will experience an influx of people who share this Calling. By responding to it, you have new friends in your world who will assist you in expanding your spiritual mission.
This Mother’s Day is significant in terms of numerology — 11 is a gateway, an open portal.
Whether you are a father or a mother, a man or a woman, where in your everyday life do you give this energy your hands and your voice? Don’t look for supernatural evidence — look for the little, constant, subtle moments where you are constantly representing this power.
How do you channel the Mother? Will you share some simple examples so that others may recognize this force in their own lives and expand the power?

Slade, I guess you would say that I channel the Mother through my blog writing. I just sat down to write my own Mother’s Day article and decided to read this first. I am going to link back to this article by the way. You just gave me more information to use in my flow of thoughts for writing my own article. You know that I have my own connection to Mother Mary. My other favorites for the Mother are Quan Yin and White Buffalo Calf Woman. One symbolizes compassion and the other healing, both of which are very important to me.
Thanks to your encouragement and support, my blog has its one year anniversary coming up on June 1. Lately I have been spending quiet time within my own healing journey and not writing as much. Sometimes I just need to be quiet and listen to my own inner dialogue rather than being busy writing. Now it is time to go write my own article. Have a glorious day and give your mom a great big hug and kiss from me for being you into this world.
Patricia
I’ve known of my connection to the Mother, or Goddess energy, for many years, but it has mostly been a quiet, in the background, sort of essence.
However, it recently became very, very clear when I was invited to be the only male spiritual facilitator at a series of “Goddess Retreats” for women!
The most fascinating aspect of that experience has been working with a number of women who are very comfortable running “warrior” energy, and assisting them to acknowlege and embody their natural feminine spirit, as well.
I’ve also been privileged to be a part of a few sacred ceremonies that, in the past, would only have allowed biological women to be present. In doing so, it became clear that we were, as a group, healing some ancient schisms between the genders. I always approached those moments with the greatest of reverence, surrendering myself to honoring and being of service to the women present, and to the energy of the Goddess.
And what was the result? I was, in turn, lifted up and celebrated by the women! It has been an amazing gift… experiencing in a viceral way, the power and value of surrender.
Blessings to all who embody and celebrate the energy of Mother today!
Kellan
Slade,
What you’re saying here seems to set the stage for things to come, and urge for a stronger expression of this energy in all of us. Pressure has been building up in an age characterized by repressing all female aspect of divine energy.
Capitalism, technology, science - all of them are expressions of the male aspects of god; focused, blazing, piercing. While not bad per se, the excess of this type of energy has escalated to an unbearable extreme, humanity’s collective pissing on mother earth being the prime example of it.
I personally express the goddess through art, showing the world in a way that needs no interpretation, where there is place for everyone’s subjective impressions to stand equal, without judging. A form of healing indeed.
Oh, Slade. This made me cry. I’ve been feeling disconnected lately. Disconnected, insignificant, a little fearful. Thanks for reminding me who I am, that connection is always available just waiting for me to plug into it.
You nailed my challenge. I definitely need to learn to care for myself the way I do others. It’s so natural, easy even, for me to listen, to be nurturing and healing with my friends and clients. Not so much with myself.
((Hugs))
Beautiful article, Slade. I guess I see the Divine Feminine in the practice of allowing and receiving - as Vitor said, these energies are not celebrated in our world! To me, it’s the difference between gentle unfolding vs. “going after” a specific result.
And on a personal note today, my little (almost) 3-year-old girl and I had a “picnic” in our yard today, just lying on the grass, looking up at the canopy of our big beautiful mesquite tree and the bright Arizona sky, and the moon was already up in the sky, too. To me, that represented the Goddess in all her glory.
Blessings,
Andrea
Patricia,
Your Mother’s Day article was wonderful. Even as I published this post I could hear all the people who did NOT have a great relationship with their mothers, which I feel you articulated very well. I like how you expanded the idea of the Mothers in your life to include all those great, strong women who have positively impacted you. I especially like how you spun the impact of a less than stellar mother daughter relationship into valuable life lessons you can still be grateful for.
I encourage everyone who feels similarly to pop on over to your take on the issue.
Thanks for including your favorite faces of the Mother — you’ve identified a trinity of Mary, Quan Yin, and White Buffalo Calf Woman that perfectly describes your energy.
Kellan,
Man, I can totally relate to your experience! Having found myself in the gender minority in my early life in a Southern matriarchy as well as Wiccan circles and communities.
During undergraduate school (in the early 1990s when only the most sophisticated, forward thinking colleges and universities had full-blown GLBT or Women’s Studies programs) I was the only man who took course credits toward a Women’s Studies Certificate.
It was fascinating representing the male voice for feminist and humanist advocacy in a room full of women.
Thank you so much for stepping forward early in the comments to represent how men may also access this energy.
Vitor,
The same for you as well, and for also expressing the Divine Creativity that comes into play. In astrology, the houses and planetary aspects that govern Children/Childbirth are identical to other forms of Creativity (such as artistic expression) — the birthing experience on an energetic level is filled with parallels.
I feel that the male-associated powers you mention, when combined with a re-awakened sense of the Divine Mother, can do wonderful things. We can’t have all one or the other; we must have a harmony of both.
Lola,
You are not alone in what you describe! It sometimes seems to me that there’s a global pandemic of women who are empaths and nurturers who struggle to nurture themselves.
It seems so odd, doesn’t it, that you know how to do it for someone else, so clearly you have the capacity to love yourself in the same way — so where’s the block, do you feel?
Is it a sense of guilt?
What if you view your Higher Self, the Soul-Level You, as one of your children? What attention is she asking of you that you aren’t providing?
Have a conversation with her and find out what exactly she needs.
It might help everyone to access these archetypes as you might open a program on your computer or a web page with your browser — instead of thinking of the Goddess (or any other archetype or ascended master) as a force outside yourself, imagine that they are programs already loaded on your soul which you can open and run… (Hmm, I need to write some posts that explore the Soul as Computer… It comes up again and again.)
Andrea, dear, I didn’t forget you!
Unfolding… perfect word.
And I must say your Mother Day experience paints a wonderful picture… The image of you and your little one…
Do you not step outside of, look back at, that experience and think “Wow, I’m living in a Poster of Mother and child?!”
Gorgeous.
This blog is amazing Slade I love it! Ha and its wonderful to remember that it was with your help that I learned to recognize and embrace this immense feminine power that I always feel in and around me. It brought me to my healing and reading work and its magnificent! Ha I even read my tea leaves and the clearest image of Artemis was represented at the bottom of my glass haha its uncanny!
This form of energy is amazing and I’m glad to see that so many have learned to channel and embrace it!
With love and light,
Angel
You forgot me, the word “pricture” was a fruedian slip, cross my heart! I was curious about the difference between “God” and “Goddess” service. I am a mother to not just my kids but everyone’s kids, I am an intuitive and I dont charge for it because frankly money doesnt mean that much to me, I always have what I need to do what I want to do.., mostly. I am extraordinarily kind when I’m not being a smartass and I’m very in tune with nature. It talks to me. Not in so many words, but, it does. Is this not all Goddess energy?
Truely interested ~ Carol
This article made me chuckle. In my earlier days I had the earth mother, loving mother energy which was perfect when my children were all small. Even those “kids” who were bigger and not mine biologically came into my life to get that energy. Now as my hormones have shifted with the energy shifts, so has the energy I channel. I think Kali is here now! I seem to be a “cut the crap and take a lap” kind of gal now. When people are talking about their problems seeking advice, things come out of my mouth now that would have never passed my lips even a year ago. Most of it has to do with releasing the old beliefs about how we heal, grow etc. New energy, new paradigm, get it? I do stop short of kicking them in the rear. I will say though, that the people who can received this energy come back a week later with wide eyes and always start the sentences with “You won’t believe the shifts I have had this week!” Those that just can’t quite make the leap yet, don’t ask me for anything anymore!
Have a lovely week y’all
Cathy, I would have never thought about that no nonsense-get on with your life attitude as coming from Kali but it does make sense. Maybe that is where I am heading as well. A close friend of mine will tell people, “Don’t ask Pat unless you want the Truth.” She thinks that I don’t pull any punches. It really depends upon who does the asking. If I know it is someone who doesn’t really want the truth, I don’t waste my time or theirs. I don’t say anything from a position of meaness (unless I am angry, then I try not to but as Slade says the word “try” just gives you an excuse to fail—Hey, I am no saint.)
Kali used to distress me. I couldn’t get past the destruction part. Now I know that without destruction, there is no renewal or rebirth.
Angel,
I’ve never read tea leaves before!
(I’ve read everything and anything else… loose tea is rarely handy.)
So, Artemis in the bottom of your cup, huh? What else could that be but bitchin cool!
Carol,
Did part of your comment get cut off or something? I’m not sure about the Freudian slip you’re referring to…
The difference between channeling God and Goddess energy. Are you asking because your guide team features emissaries of Sananda and Archangel Michael? Your personal guardian angels are of the Principalities angel phylum… Your contract, your chart, your life purpose has Father God lessons, and you identify strongly with Divine Feminine roles?
Let me assert that we ultimately have access to all these archetypes — again, like programs installed on a computer. For instance, I have MS Outlook on this machine, yet it has never once been opened. I use Google for email, calendar, and contacts. I could use either or both… One works very well for me and I’m adept at using it.
However, there may be things I want to accomplish that might be better served by opening up and running a new program.
Really, that’s not a great analogy to what I feel your question is, but I want you to know that you have/ can open/ access both God and Goddess energies. Depending on the circumstances, some energies may “work” better than others, both may work, or one may work but not as well as another…
We’re getting into dualities and breakdowns and labels… Ultimately, you seek to embody a yin/yang; there is a relationship between the Divine Parents represented in your Higher Self. In other words, you ideally want to do — to be — to embody BOTH.
Most of us will have a tendency toward one or the other, and we like to work with our power. If we’re good at a particular process or energy, we’ll whip it and out and use it anywhere we can.
If you feel particularly comfortable and strong in the Mother, where is the Father energy? If you’re all Big Mama, then you may be here to work on learning to express the male authoritative energy.
Just as an example, I spent my life focused on the Mother Goddess energy because that’s what I naturally felt more comfortable wielding. I don’t like to exercise or learn things I have no aptitude for, personally, so I end up being Top Heavy in my skill sets — when I work out at the gym, I grow quickly and noticeably in the arms and shoulders. I hate to do leg work outs - I have bird legs and it’s an uphill battle. I have to consciously make an additional effort to insist on that harmony…
On a less metaphorical level, when I was considering starting this web site and working as an intuitive (putting my Mother energies out there) I met a psychic medium who read for me and pointed out that I channel the Mother, the Goddess energy is all muscled up and practiced and comfortable and strong… But I was all but ignoring the Father. I was not expressing the male authority, I was shy of putting myself out as a priest and teacher. I had been recently ordained… But.
There was always a but. What I was doing well and felt strong in was obvious. The missing “half” of my purpose required me to give voice to that Father, to give myself permission, to proceed in an “official” social capacity as a priest, a Father.
I moved forward in that evolution by packaging my Goddess-comfy self up into a career.
How might that balance/harmony express for you? You see the Goddess in the mirror, you feel you know her power. What does the Father in you look and feel like? How do you express that other Hand?
Cathy (and Patricia),
My experiences with Mary were shocking yet lovely, but the first time the Goddess turned up in her Kali drag it scared the shit out of me. (Pardon my language; Kali doesn’t care…) I literally screamed, my cat ran under the bed, I took the screen off my bedroom window so I wouldn’t have to go back into the room where she was, and the front door was right in her glaring path… I called a friend I hadn’t talked to in three years because he was the only person who could calm me/ understand, and I went to his house and stayed the night, the whole time stressing and feeling guilty that I’d left my poor kitty alone in the house with that Holy Terror…
I didn’t even realize who She was, but after describing my horrific encounter, he pulled an image in a book and showed her to me. Kali.
My relationship with her evolved in a way that reminds me of the movie King Kong, with me as the poor bride offering… But once I got to know the scary Uber Bitch that is Kali, why she comes, and what she is good at, I welcomed her into my world.
Kali has taught me how to be a Chaos Surfer. Nobody rocks the Creative Force of Change quite like Kali. She’s one tough ally to have in your personal pantheon.
Cathy, are you a fan of Carolyn Myss?
She seems to embody a bit of this tough-love bad-ass mystic-chick voice you speak of. Sometimes, a Bitch Slap is just what the Universe ordered.
:-)
Slade, I like the computer program analogy and the idea that masculine energy works better than feminine energy in certain situations and vice versa.
For example, a few days ago Steve Pavlina caused a stir with his blog post on How to Be a Man. When Steve goes into that masculine vibe it can be off-putting to me but I have to admit that he can encourage people to think and clarify their own opinions in ways that I couldn’t with my “try not offend anyone” approach. No growth can take place if we all agree with each other 100%.
What I’m seeing in my life is that I need more yin in some areas and more yang in others. I’d like to be able to use more feminine energy in processing inputs (trusting my intuition) and more masculine energy in processing outputs (more assertive, decisive action).
Thanks for the great post. Now I’m going to have to do some research on Kali…
Emily,
That’s a brilliant way to approach this duality of “gender” energies.
I personally break down everything I do, all interactions and circumstances, into Projective and Receptive modes, which is essentially what you’re describing. I program this function through my hands and jewelry.
Hmm. Something to share with you guys and gals…
Yes, I’d love to hear more about that! Human programming… It reminds me of the common observation that geeks are so drawn to Getting Things Done because it lets them pretend to be computers. :p
